A delightful tour that truly recognizes the impact of all who lived there from slave, to Dolly Madison, to the duPont family after. A great hub of historical buildings and information. The guided tour was impactful and very well informed. I love visiting presidential homes and Montpelier is one for everyone!
Very interesting place. Quite beautiful as well. The story was nicely delivered and the different presentations were brilliantly brought to life. A feel as if every citizen of the US should visit this place at least once.
Neat tour of the house. Favorite part was the Mere Distinction of Colour exhibit. Had my kids asking thoughtful, and tough questions about human nature, the quality and qualities of presidents, etc. Been to Monticello before as well, liked both. Think this is my slight preference.
This home is very well preserved and great to see. There are guided tours but only every half hour so if you don't plan your trip well, you can end up having some time to kill. They have a tour on slavery which was very powerful but also a tour on the Constitution but these are only available once a day.
Everyone who is able should see this at some point. It is a powerful building and you learn much about Madison and the time in which he lived.
Fascinating house of a fascinating person. The history of the house itself is also interesting given it rapidly fell into disarray after James Madison passed. It was subsequently acquired by the DuPont family and massively renovated. It has since been restored to its original form. The majority of the house is made from the same bricks that were laid in the 18th century. The estate itself is beautiful. The tour was excellent. The tour guides were very knowledgeable. You can easily go day of and get in a tour on a weekday, which is what we did. We didn’t realize there was a constitution tour at 1:30 PM which sounded interesting to us. Pretty sure this is my favorite presidential house.
