Easy trails to follow.. Close to the city..
Nice environment (flowing river), free of debris/signs of life from the homeless, leads to Sweetwater Dam & Bonita.
This place is nice for every kind of hike trip. Whether it be by yourself or with your family or for the full day or a short hike.great spot.
The only reason this doesn't get a full five stars in my book is from the lack of a fountain or any basic services I've seen at the majority of other wildlife refuges i.e. bathroom, drinking fountain. Also, parking and maintenance of the trails in my experience is hit or miss, but it's one of the most relaxing nature walks/hikes in the area. One odd complaint though:everyone and their mother comes to take pictures here at the bridge. Like, don't give me dirtly looks when you bring your 25 family members to this PUBLIC PLACE to take pics on the bridge, and I have to walk across the bridge because there's no other way through besides walking on the main road alongside highway speed traffic. Really, this is San Diego county and there is 100 equally beautiful places for a Photoshoot. I reccomend going right after the rains have finished in spring until early summer. The place is practically bursting with life.
Amazing hidden gem. It makes for a great home during spring.
