  After a rough year Operation Stand Down was there for our family all the way. They were friendly, kind and very helpful. When times got hard they made it a lot easier to bare. Our family can not thank them enough for having our back. We look forward to paying it forward one day sooner than later. Thanks again!

  Approximately four or more years ago, we were faced with a desperate situation. We were staying in a hotel room and didn't know the next day where we were going to live. Myself, my wife and our children were in serious jeopardy. Being a disabled veteran, you'd think there would an abundance of assistance available, especially for those of us who served 20+ years. But there is not. On that last night, in our desperation, we called the American Legion who referred us to OSDRI. Within 1 hour of placing the call, we had received word to "not worry. Everything will be ok. We will call you back"". We immediately thought, "here were go. Another organization telling us the 'we would love to help but....' speech". Within minutes, we were told "ok. We have a place for you." At that time, we didn't have any gas in the car we were about to call home. "Our guy will be down to get you and your family in the morning. Be ready to go". We looked at each other and just cried. "Please God. Let this be true." Sure enough, the next morning, there was a representative right outside our door. First stop: fuel. Second stop, osdri offices. We met with several people who were absolutely outstanding. By later on that morning, there we stood in our apartment. Our little girl asked how long we were allowed to stay there. The representative then stated "this is YOUR home, sweetheart". My wife and i were on pins and needles. After couch surfing for 2 years, we kept waiting for someone to say "well, your time is up". But no one has. Over the last 4+ year's, OSDRI has been there for everything from medical care, benefit issues, personal issues and so much more. I am a PROUD resident of OSDRI. I am certainly blessed to call them family and they've always treated us as such. I am grateful and honored to say they saved our lives.
