  Absolutely beautiful park. I recommend biking in though as it's a long walk to get to the park. Many wonderful overlooks, trails, and rustic camp sites.

  Destination is worth the journey, but here are some tips to make the most of the experience if planning to camp overnight:
  
  1. Highly recommend biking in rather than hiking. Most of the trail is flat paved/gravel road, making it not the most enjoyable hike. Walking along the beach trail when the tide is out is pretty nice however. You still need to walk along a paved road from the overnight parking area (why they don't allow overnight parking in the Back Bay lot is beyond me).
  
  2. If you plan to camp on the beach, make sure the weather is great with no chance of rain. We went when it was cloudy with a 10-20% chance of rain, but found that the wind and drizzle on the beach prevented us from setting up camp there. The interior sites aren't too bad though.

  We made the bike ride through Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge to get here. It's roughly a 5 mile bike ride. Great scenery and only a handful of people at any time. The house flies were biting in the wooded areas, but were manageable with big spray. The oceanfront was gorgeous and nearly empty! Not something I'm used to being a local in Virginia Beach. Even with base access you can struggle to enjoy 100' of beach front to yourself. If you're up for the home or bike ride this park is a great day trip to be had.
