Saltwater State Park

The trails here are beautiful. Sometimes there's a bit of an incline, not too bad, but it's worth it. Ferns galore. And it's very clean and well-kept-up. There are a lot of smaller side-trails along the way that are worth checking out--but be careful not to go into anyone's yard.

The only disadvantage to this park is how close it is to the airport, lots of noise.

We love this place been going there my whole life. The beach is perfect for our 2 young children with excellent real sand, mild waves and shallow water, lots of shells and driftwood and in summer concessions including canoe rentals. There is camping and hiking here too. All close to home

Very nice pleasant park right in Des Moines. You can hike through beautiful vegetation to warm up ( not even 2 miles) and then enjoy the great view by the Sound. If the tide is low kids can enjoy little crabs and hermit crabs. Wait! They have ice cream, hot dogs and a few other snacks. You can also rent kayaks! Check availability though. The grassy area by the ice cream shop has tables and trees with a shaded area.

Always love coming here. Have been coming here since my oldest daughter was 2. Love low tide to find all the life in the pools. Great day hangout and bbq. Food shop is a little pricey but gets the job done if you need it. Great place for family!
