Sunday afternoon had a taste for barbecue, called my son and ask him if they wanted to go out to eat.
My daughter-in-law works part-time for a tour bus company and has occasionally driven groups to the Salt Lick BBQ Restaurant in Driftwood, TX.
The only downside to this evening was it was pretty cool and a bit windy but it was not bothering the customers as we waited. There is BOTH outside and inside seating. The four of us waited 45 minutes to be seated and the food was absolutely worth the wait.
The wait staff was very on point with EVERYTHING.
There was also live entertainment out in the Back Yard Picnic Area.
Will definitely go back, earlier in the day and warmer weather!!
Oh my… amazing food for our family of 6!! We decided to order quarts of the sides and 1/2 lb of meats… that was perfect for our family to try and then pick favorites to order second portion of anything. Also comes out fast that way! The sides were really good. And the kids thought the ribs were out of this world. Nicely done Salt Lick!!
Everything about this treasure is fantastic. We usually get the All you can eat plates. Your perfect servings of Brisket, Ribs and Sausage. And some delicious sides. Two options for sauce - delicious and spicy delicious. Of course sauce is ALWAYS a matter of taste, but this, for me hits the spot.
Beautiful grounds to enjoy lots of trees and always perfect to sit inside or out to enjoy your dinner.
My first thought is that it’s a little gimmicky, like the lines/wait are so long because everyone wants to see what it’s about. We waited about 50 minutes to be seated, which wasn’t terrible because they have a little play ground area for kids so that occupied our time while waiting.
The barbecue was tasty..I wouldn’t say amazing though. The barbecue sauce was great. But the sides…they just didn’t do it for me. I prefer creamy coleslaw and creamy potato salad, theirs is not. And the beans are plain ranch style. Our waiter was nice, it was very busy at the time we went so somewhat understandable when he’d disappear for a little bit. I also didn’t eat enough for the Family Style to be worth it for me. Overall, it was an okay experience but I wouldn’t be excited to go back, and I definitely wouldn’t drive the 3.5hrs to visit again.
Best BBQ I've ever had. I went there while visiting though the food was amazing that wasn't the only thing that made the visit great. The waiter, also named Jacob was phenomenal, the ambiance was perfect, the history was super interesting to learn about and the BBQ pit itself was an awesome sight to see.
Would recommend to anyone... It's BYOB FYI.
Update: Planning on visiting again now that I am living in Austin. Plan on getting tons of pictures and trying a little bit of everything, also bringing some beer.
