Kingsley Plantation

Beautifully preserved property. Old plantation with well written historical signage. There is a boat dock you can tie to and access the property from the water. Very nice dock however you cant fish from it.

Amazing! So much untold history. Don't skip the bookstore - great books plus the lady in there is so full of history knowledge.

We went planning to spend about a hour and a half. We're there for 2 hours and it still was not enough time but we had dinner reservations.

We do plan to go back.

I finally made it to this solemn place after a long wait and it was much more than expected. Following a beautiful ride in through the oak tree draped road leading in we passed through the gates of Kingsley Plantation, a Sea Island Cotton plantation. Immediately there were ruins of slave quarters arched around in both directions. The parking area is about 1/5th of a mile beyond the gate. We scanned the code for the self tour and began our journey. It was an intense experience of learning first about the plantation owners lives and then the lives of the slaves who toiled there and the universe of distance between their two realities. We spent 2+ hours and could have easily been there 3+ hours. I highly recommend this deeply moving experience and the wealth of information they freely offer in this park. Visit the Planter's House, the Kitchen House, the Stable, a well and the Slave Quarters. The visitor's center, gift shop and restrooms are in the large building to the left of the main house.

Interesting home/plantation. Forgotten history of Florida. Weekends are probably the best time to visit as you would have Rangers there to give talks. Road to the Park is a long dirt road with holes.
