I run regularly and fortunately am issue free but am only getting older while logging more and more miles. I wanted to ensure I could continue running as a lifetime sport without regret. I first started looking into gait analysis provided by local running shops but quickly realized that would only be a superficial assessment and worried that any outcome was masking other underlying issues. After a Google search for more in-depth running analysis with a bit more rigor, I found, local to me, Doylestown Sports Medicine Center. I first started my inquiries through email and found the team responsive and easy to work with. At that point I felt comfortable to setup an appointment for the analysis and was eager to attend. The analysis itself was a few hours (2+?) where I had the full attention of Brian, the PT. If I recall, he first assessed my general posture, flexibility, balance, and dominate/compensatory muscle tendencies. Next, we did various movements to determine imbalances and weakness, all while he was recording notes and providing feedback. Then we spent the remainder of time on or around the treadmill with sensors connected on my body and walking/running/jumping movements being recorded by cameras and computers. Throughout, Brian was ready for any questions I had and explained what we were doing and trying to accomplish. The outcome of all this was a detailed report booklet with pictures and write-ups of the assessment, including tendencies and faulty movements. Like many may think, I thought I could just strengthen my weak muscles and that would fix the problems. What I’ve since learned, and corroborated through real world experience, are better ways to move, including isolated exercises and cues to down-train compensatory muscles and the activation of the right ones. The activation exercises were difficult at first, not because of weight (in fact, there are no weights involved, just body movements), but difficult only because my brain couldn’t find the right way to activate muscle X without also turning on muscles Y and Z. Through the help of the PTs, I was given the right mental cues, encouragement, and confirmation of performing things correctly and now feel empowered by the additional control I have over my body. I am religiously practicing the exercises reviewed with me to correct form and have indeed found that I am running better overall. I feel safer and less prone to injury after losing the muscle memory that is not serving me. I am still in process, but the goal is to better integrate what I've learned into my runs - increasingly becoming more efficient (less wear and tear) and with movement that will help me stay defensively stanced when it comes to the issues that I’ve heard sideline runners. Overall, I'm very happy and could wholeheartedly recommend physical therapist Brian and his whole team at DSMC!

The team at Doylestown Sports Medicine is one of my most valuable resources for health, well being, and pursuit of sports excellence. As an athlete I have sustained a few injuries over the years (probably a few too many), and I have utilized Doylestown Sport Medicine to not only get over the injury but to also improve and strengthen the affected areas so as to eliminate re-injury in the future.
As hard as it is to deal with the physical and mental struggles of an acute or chronic injury, I always come out stronger, more unified, and better at my sport through working with the excellent healers at Doylestown Sports Medicine.
This is the place to go if you want to fix what is ailing you.

My first experience with DSMC was several years ago when I sought insurance-covered rehab for a repetitive-use shoulder injury. Their approach of up-training appropriate muscles while down-training overused muscles alleviated my shoulder pain and strengthened my scapula and back muscles. I also liked that they regularly rotated the therapist I worked with. They all employed the same core methodology & terminology, yet I got the benefit of 4 different perspectives and personalities. Their approach was both specific and targeted, and it made PT effective and fun.

I was so happy with the results that I sought them out again last year to help with lower-body performance improvement on a self-pay basis. I was tired of being limited by a life-long problem with flat feet, over-pronation, and lousy balance. Working with them over the last year, I have completely renovated my gait, from improved core and glute strength to re-alignment of stabilizer thigh/knee/calf muscles and improved foot/toe strength and balance. We are now fine-tuning and putting it together with the back, neck and arm muscle groups to help me with yoga and kayaking. Thanks to Brian, Brian (the other Brian!), Gloria, and John, I can finally do one-legged yoga balances! Yay!

There have been several recent updates to DSMC, including a more-spacious new home, continuing Covid protocols, and a new massage therapist. Amy is a great addition to the staff, and her massage skills complement the PT/performance work I'm doing. And no review would be complete without mentioning the great front-desk crew. James, Robert, Kim, McCutchen, Diane (am I missing anyone?) are professional, helpful, and friendly.

I've put in a lot of sweat equity on my DSMC program over time, and I've seen great results. Simply put, I wouldn't be continuing with DSMC on my own dime if they weren't delivering top-notch care. Thanks to everyone!

The Team at Doylestown Sports Medicine has been a huge help to me. I’ve now recovered from three different injuries over the past several years thanks to their amazing efforts. I really came to appreciate their attention to detail and communication. Their team of therapists (and staff) work so well together. Each therapist was fully apprised of my needs and treatment plan, and they each contributed their own valuable perspective to plan.
