Excellent quality work

Everyone who saw my mother's dining room and bedrooms sets prior to refinishing by the talented craftsmen at Antiques Plus are impressed by the beauty of the wood and quality of the workmanship. What a transformation!

Finding a great upholsterer is a lot like finding your perfect hair stylist: You have to rely on referrals and online reviews, and even then, it’s a risk. How do you know other people’s standards are as high as yours? And what happens when you see “it” for the first time...and you hate it?! All i can say, I wish i could find a salon that could do my hair as amazingly as Antiques Plus Upholstery & Restoration redid my sofa.

It’s been in my family for generations. A spectacular piece, it was falling apart: The frame was separating, springs practically hit the floor and the seat cushion was a lumpy mess covered in fraying fabric.

John Riccio, the owner and a master craftsman, was recommended by an interior designer in the City. I decided to check out his workshop in Rockaway before entrusting him with my beloved sofa. As soon as i walked in, i knew i was in the right place. The antiques that make up his showroom and office are stunning—from a gracious farmhouse table for spreading out fabrics to the upholstered wingback and dining chairs, accent tables and Tiffany lamps. (I wanted to move in!) And the workroom looked like an artisan space from the old country, with furniture in various stages of repair, restoration and upholstery.

John showed me pictures of his process, explaining how the sofa would get stripped to its bones and completely rebuilt, stuffed and upholstered, all by hand. We made a date for him to come to my place, take measurements, give me a quote and pick up the piece. Gulp.

Eight weeks later, they deliver my sofa, thoroughly wrapped in plastic. They set it up, tear away the wrapping, and i am blown away! My ramshackle old sofa has been transformed and looks better than i could have ever imagined! The workmanship is exceptional, and it’s so comfortable, no one wants to get up! Last but not least, the value: This is New York City quality at New Jersey prices. I cannot recommend John Riccio and Antiques Plus highly enough!
