Great Chicken, we just need some fries made with the same batter the chicken is made with. Friendly service no doubt. That's the only reason I gave 4 Stars. Please, we need some better tasting Fries!!!! Also, a while back I asked if I could make a burger out of the chicken strips, beyond the greatest chicken sandwich I've had in a long time. Here's a picture.. Add this to the Menu!
Simple menu with strong dishes. Their chicken comes right out of the fryer golden, crispy, and crunchy with a juicy inside. It tasted new yet nostalgic. I can’t quite pin point it, but very yummy.
The spicy rice has a good flavor to it. The tiny bits of chicken are a nice touch. The mashed potatoes tasted fresh, and the corn was necessary. Buttery, not salty. Same goes for biscuit. It just melted in my mouth. I ordered an extra side of the gravy to dip the tenders… a MUST. The gravy really brought it all together for me.
The wait was a little long, but overall a great place to try. I do wish they sold dessert. That would be the cherry on top.
Almost 5s for me. Con: $1.50 credit/debit charge and no restroom. Mostly take out. Beside that, chicken is hot and juicy. Does taste different from other fried chicken. Super crispy. Get 2 sides. Drink is extra.
Haven't had it in years. Decided to make the trek for lunch today. The biscuits and strips were amazing. I really disliked the macaroni and potatoe salad, they may be store bought. The rice is yummy definitely spicy. They do take card payments but be aware there is a $1 fee to use it. The service was great. The young lady working the counter was super friendly and helpful.
Founded in 1961, way before my birth, I have heard about Pioneer Chicken many times growing up in San Diego and know at one point they had 270 locations operating around the southwest including Hawaii, although now it’s down to just two locations left. It’s a part of LA history and United States fast food history as well.
They’re famous for their super crispy, crunchy outside skin and juicy inside. Honestly it’s really delicious fried chicken and a seriously nice treat if you’re in the mood for this type of food. I have pretty much tried all the sides and can say each of them is a solid option. Both locations can get very busy so parking can be tricky at certain times but it’s worth the wait because honestly the lines are never too long.
Definitely some of the best fried chicken in all Los Angeles and it’s worth going for the history alone.
