Prairie Elder Care Farmstead

  I interviewed 10 places looking for a care facility for my mother. In contrast to most places, Prairie Elder Care is small, only 8 residents, and I feel the staff know them extremely well. It is a brightly lit and newly built beautiful home, without the hospital-like corridors of bigger facilities. Staff cook in a family style kitchen, and residents are allowed to participate with table preparation, dishes, etc, if they choose, as opposed to most industrial type kitchens that would keep residents out and served only. They keep chickens on site for eggs, as well as ducks and goats outdoors (within view). My own mother had difficulty with terrible angry moods that her disease brought on. PEC worked in constant communication with her physician and nurse practitioner to find the medication combination that helped alleviate Mom's symptoms and allow her to regain her normally happy personality. I am grateful to the staff for their efforts and expertise in helping my Mom through this terrible disease.
