  This is a quiet, beautiful meditation/retreat center. Sometimes it looks like you're on an island floating amongst the clouds. Well-run, reasonably priced and far from the nearest cell-phone tower. The vegetarian food they serve is delicious.
  
  As I understand it, the food is donated by a generous grocery wholesaler to the Rinzai Zen monk who manages the center (Dokan). I find that an interesting, American take on the ancient Buddhist tradition of monks being fed by the laity. And Dokan can cook -- again, delicious.

  In June 2013, we had our Ajanh Jamnien Vipassana retreat (not a silent retreat) at this location. It was peaceful and everyone enjoyed our retreat. The Abbot (Gento) and the other resident Zen monks took very good care of us and understood our retreat is not Zen but Thai Vipassana. Gento and the other monks made sure we had everything we needed. I highly recommend this location. We are having another retreat in June this year.

  I was test driving a new car and thought I would go to high elevation places. So I chose Mt. Badly. While I was doing web search about the area, I found the Zen center.
  
  It is a very quiet and nice place for meditation or retreat. According to a very nice volunteer who gave me a brief tour of the facility, other than their own retreats, the venue is up for rent for private group activities or retreats. Food service is available too.
  
  Must be nice to spend a few nights here during the winter.
