I was referred to Dr. O'Connell at Insight by my Ophthalmologist because of blood in my eye. Dr. O'Connell examined me and scheduled surgery for the same day for a retinal detachment and tear. The surgery went well and I'm healing normally. Dr. O'Connell communicates well and is thorough with his diagnosis, which inspired confidence in him and trust in his work. His explanations and demonstrations helped me to relax and feel less fear about the recovery process. His staff and office are friendly and helpful. I do have three suggestions for his care of retinal surgery patients:
1) Clearer and more complete post-op instructions
2) Loaner equipment for the short two-week face-down healing period to make it bearable (since renting/buying for such a short time is difficult.)
3) Over-the-glasses eye patches (which I had to struggle to find) for patients (they are inexpensive!)

I was referred by my eye doctor to check on some holes in my retina. I already had laser surgery for that 4 years ago with a different surgeon so I knew what to expect. I did not like this surgery the first time around and was terrified (read: anxious and nauseous). I did not expect to wait two hours to be seen at each of my 4 appointments. I had a 30 minute drive and I was trying to get there and back during my 6 month old's nap. So I would advise to plan accordingly. However, the staff there was tremendous in comforting me and helping me as I was feeling sick throughout the whole procedure. The Doctor and assistants went above and beyond what they were required to do as far as making my surgery more pleasant. Thank you!

5 STARS!!!!! My dad has had eye problems for a long time and nothing seemed to work. His eyesight got worse and he was nearly blind in his left eye. I got a second opinion from an optometrist who sent my dad to Dr. O'Connell. Their office got him in that afternoon and he had surgery that night! His successful outcome prompted me to let others know eye surgery doesn't have to be scary. If something doesn't sound right, get a second opinion! I'm glad we did & thanks to Dr. O'Connell and his compassionate staff, my dad has his vision back! Thanks so much for helping my dad!!
